The president of our poetry society must resign because of failing health. Our vice-president is willing to step up and assume the presidency. Is this the proper procedure or must there be a vote that allows her to move up? Also, do we then need to elect a new vice-president or do we just finish out the two year term with no vice-president. We are only six months into the two year term. Our vice-president has specific duties, so we really need a vice-president. Do we have to get a nominating committee and go through all the procedure of an election for just that one office. Can a vice-president be appointed? There is no conflict or strife in our group. We just need to know the proper procedure. Our by-laws do not address what to do if a president resigns. It only give the duties of the office. Thanks.
Dear Valerie,
Thank you for wanting to do things that are right! The Vice -President moves up and you need to elect a new one. Follow whatever procedure you have in your bylaws for nominations. If you normally have a nominating committee then establish one and go forward.
Cheerio,
Little Ben
