Must approval of meeting minutes be put into a motion and seconded?
Dear Bev,
No. It is usually handled by the presiding officer stating the minutes are either approved as read or corrected. So here is the whole scenario. The presiding officers asks the secretary to read the minutes. Then the presiding officer asks for corrections. If there are none, the presiding officer states, "the minutes are approved as read." If there is a correction the presiding officer should ask, "Is there any objection to making the correction?" That way if several people have a differing view on the correction a vote can be taken. After corrections, the presiding officer then states, "The minutes are approved as corrected."
Cheerio,
Little Ben
